The EO is the really scary part. Lincoln had some strong wartime/insurrection powers at his disposal, but that power was given to him by the people and Congress, not by executive order. And Lincoln was as close to a perfect statesman as we've ever had.
My thoughts can be summed up as follows: if this is the best the party can do, I'm done with the party.
