The High Cost of Arugula

While much of this wonderful column by Kathleen Parker is devoted to the inordinate attention paid to the potential "first spouses", the arugula comment alone is worth the price of admission.

I'm comforted that 1) I have no idea what it is (but I assume a vegetable) and 2) Democrats still say the stupidest things.

MT, yes, the arugula comment does show Obama's tone-deafness; he doesn't seem to realize that the people he is speaking to may not eat arugula or care about its price. I think the comment may have been more suited to an upscale urban audience than in rural Iowa.
BTW, arugula is a kind of a lettuce-like green, with a peppery flavor. Good in salads but not something that is in my everyday diet, although maybe for Obama and the other limo liberals, it's considered a staple.

VA,

I can't believe I missed this comment! Thank you for educating a meat-head like me. But beyond tone-deaf, don't you think - unless his comments were completely improvisational - that this is a sign of poor research or just plain stupidity? If I'm talking to someone in Chicago, I know they're familiar with Whole Foods. I would check into the locations of Whole Foods if I was speaking in an area I wasn't familiar with - say, Iowa, or Idaho, or whatever.

I've said it before, and maybe this is just more evidence: Obama is all sizzle, no steak.
